Understanding your
Medicare options.

Turning 65 is an important milestone with decisions that can impact your coverage long-term. I review your options with you before you decide, and check your doctors and medications against available plans.

No fees. No pressure. Your broker earns a commission from the carrier, never from you.

The four parts of Medicare,
clearly explained.

Original Medicare, Advantage plans, prescription drug coverage, and Medigap. Here's what each one does and how they work together.

Parts A & B

The foundation of Medicare. Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing, and hospice. Part B covers outpatient care, doctor visits, and preventive services.

  • Hospital stays and skilled nursing facility care
  • Doctor visits and outpatient services
  • Preventive care and screenings
  • Avoiding Part B late-enrollment penalties
  • Coordination with employer coverage or COBRA

Part C — Medicare Advantage

An alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurers. Often bundles dental, vision, and prescription coverage into one plan.

  • HMO and PPO plan structures
  • Network doctor and hospital check
  • Extra benefits: dental, vision, hearing, fitness
  • Annual plan comparison during AEP (Oct 15 – Dec 7)
  • Special Enrollment Period qualifying events

Part D — Prescription Drug Plans

Standalone drug coverage that works alongside Original Medicare or a Medigap policy. I help compare plans based on your specific medications to help identify lower-cost options.

  • Prescription drug formulary check
  • Tier pricing and cost comparison
  • Avoiding Part D late-enrollment penalties
  • Low Income Subsidy (Extra Help) eligibility
  • Annual review — plans change every year

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

Fills the gaps Original Medicare doesn't cover. Standardized plans let you compare apples to apples across carriers.

  • Plan G, Plan N, and High-Deductible options
  • Guaranteed issue rights and enrollment timing
  • Carrier pricing comparison (same benefits, different cost)
  • No network restrictions — any Medicare-accepting provider
  • Underwriting rules and health question guidance

Medicare questions,
straight answers.

Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month and ends 3 months after. Enrolling late, even by one month, can result in permanent premium penalties for Part B and Part D. If you have creditable employer coverage, the rules are different. Contact Sky before your birthday to make sure you don't miss your window.
Original Medicare (Parts A & B) is a federal program with no network. You can see any Medicare-accepting provider nationwide. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurance companies and typically uses networks (HMO or PPO). Advantage plans often bundle dental, vision, and drug coverage but may require referrals or limit you to in-network providers. The right choice depends on your health, your doctors, and your budget.
Not everyone does, but Original Medicare alone has no out-of-pocket maximum, meaning a serious illness could result in significant costs. A Medigap plan covers many of those gaps. An important time to enroll is during your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period that starts when you turn 65 and enroll in Part B. During that window, insurers cannot deny you or charge more due to health conditions.
Part A is typically at no additional cost if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. Part B has a standard monthly premium set annually by the government. Part D, Medicare Advantage, and Medigap costs vary by plan, carrier, prescriptions, location, and income. Higher-income individuals may pay more through IRMAA surcharges. Sky will walk through your complete cost picture before you enroll.
With Original Medicare, you can see any doctor who accepts Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, it depends on the plan's network. Before recommending any plan, Sky checks whether your preferred doctors and hospital are in-network. If they're not, she'll either look for an option that includes them or give you a clear picture of the trade-offs.
No. As a licensed broker, Sky is compensated by insurance carriers through commissions already built into the plan's premium. You pay exactly the same price whether you enroll through a broker or directly, but with a broker, you get guidance, plan comparisons, and ongoing support at no additional cost to you.
